Gentle readers, I am thankful for the thoughtfulness of the commenters on this blog. I learn from y’all, and even when I disagree my thinking is often sharpened and clarified. I think I have an obligation to respond thoughtfully to people who have responded thoughtfully to me — but I may have some trouble doing that in the coming weeks. I am trying to finish this darn book, and that leaves me little time to do other kinds of typing. But I will respond when I can.
Another thing: I often write a week’s worth of posts at once and then schedule them to apear throughout the week. When you’re writing a book, multitasking is your enemy, so I try to block out relatively large chunks of time to devote to it. Writing blog posts every day doesn’t fit my modus operandi very well. So I may go a couple of days without even looking at this blog, which means that I may not even see your impassioned and intelligent comment until you’ve forgotten that you wrote it. . . .
